Biography

Dr. Inna Belfer is a human geneticist whose primary interest has been the relationship between genotypes and complex phenotypes such as pain, psychiatric disorders, and addictions. Her laboratory research addresses the transformation of acute pain into chronic pain and genetic factors contributing to this process. New association studies are performed in independent cohorts of neuropathic pain. A particular focus of most recent studies has been on the effect of genotype on the neurobiology of primary afferent neurons in human dorsal root ganglia. The later studies use a combination of molecular techniques on post-mortem nerve tissues from regular autopsies and fresher samples from organ donors.

Research Interest

Dr. Inna Belfer is a human geneticist whose primary interest has been the relationship between genotypes and complex phenotypes such as pain, psychiatric disorders, and addictions. Functional genomics studies included the effect of common polymorphism on the neurobiology of primary afferent neurons in human dorsal root ganglia using donor post-mortem nerve tissues. A particular focus of current research is the development of large well-phenotyped chronic pain cohorts for genetic association studies.
