Biography

Career Objective:

A passionate urge to learn and deep desire to be part of scientific research world and the prospect of being in the forefront of knowledge and contribute to it as prompted me to take up a career in research. One among my long-term desires is to excel as a good researcher and academician.

Highlights:

Capability in the field of ‘Biopolymers, Environmental Chemistry, Pollution Control, Supramolecular Chemistry & Polymer Chemistry' especially in the field of Chitin/Chitosan based materials, Thiacalixarene Chemistry for environmental applications.

Experience in modern synthetic protocols, including multi-step synthesis and structural characterization using spectroscopic techniques, viz. UV-visible, IR, NMR, Mass and also exposure in the area of X-ray crystallography.

Hands on experience in analytical instruments such as Bruker 600 MHz NMR, MALDI, TGA-DTA, SEM-EDAX, VA, AAS, CHN, BET, ICP-OES, XRF, IR and UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Also have considerable experience in carrying out adsorption/solvent extraction of heavy metals and rare metals experiments.

Research Experiences:

January - 2013 to till date - Postdoctoral Fellow - Research Center for Engineering Science and Venture Business Laboratory - Akita University, Akita, Japan.

April - 2011 to November - 2012 - Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) Senior Research Fellow - Department of Chemistry, Gandhigram Rural University, Gandhigram, India.

November - 2008 to April - 2011 - Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Research Fellow - Department of Chemistry, Gandhigram Rural University, Gandhigram, India.

November- 2007 to November - 2008- Research Associate - (Research and Development) Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Ltd. (SPIC) - Pharmaceutical Division at Chennai, India.

Research Expertise:

At present working on “Development and functional estimation of new thiacalix[n]arenes based extractants for base-metals/rare-metals recovery from automotive catalyst residues”

Developed novel synthetic routes for the synthesis of lower and upper rim substituted thiacalix[n]arenes via SNAr reactions/Mannich reaction and characterized them by the combined use of NMR and single crystal X-ray techniques.

Developed novel silica/chitosan composite, alumina/chitosan composite, nano- hydroxyapatite/chitosan composite via sol-gel reactions and characterized them by the use of BET, TEM and X-ray techniques.

In addition, prepared various modified multifunctional chitin/chitosan and synthetic polymeric resins for toxic ion removal.

Carried out various functional group inter conversions and prepared amino terminated hyper branched dendritic polyamidoamine chitosan beads (up to 3rd generation) were prepared by Michael addition of methyl acrylate to amino groups on the chitosan surface and amidation of terminal ester groups by ethylene diamine.

Experience in both column and batch adsorption studies, solving various sorption isotherms, thermodynamic parameters, sorption kinetics and arriving suitable mechanism.
