France is a sovereign state in Western Europe, encompasses medieval and port cities, tranquil villages, mountains and Mediterranean beaches. Paris, its capital, is known worldwide for its couture fashion houses, classical art museums including the Louvre and monuments like the Eiffel Tower.

The European part of France, called metropolitan France, extends from the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel and the North Sea and from the Rhine to the Atlantic Ocean. France is one of only three countries (with Morocco and Spain) to have both Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines. From northeast to southwest, Metropolitan France shares borders with Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, Spain and Andorra.

A member of the Group of 7 (formerly G8) leading industrialized countries, as of 2014, it is ranked as the world's ninth largest and the EU's second largest economy by purchasing power parity. With 31 of the 500 biggest companies in the world in 2015, France ranks fourth in the Fortune Global 500, ahead of Germany and the UK. France has a mixed economy that combines extensive private enterprise with substantial state enterprise and government intervention. France is one of the biggest contributors to the European Space Agency.

The Institute of Human Genetics (Institut de Génétique Humaine, IGH) is a major CNRS unit dedicated to excellence in fundamental research and pathology. The Dubai Health Authority and the Imagine Institute of Genetic Diseases in France would collaborate on genetic research and education to better treat genetic disorders in the United Arab Emirate.
